EuroLightning is a free app by ITALDRONI that shows
near-real-time thunderstorm lightning over Europe and the Mediterranean. We built it to
respect your privacy: no account, no advertising, no tracking, and no access to
your location.
In short: The app does not collect personal information. It does not use
your location. It shows no ads and contains no third-party analytics or advertising
trackers. We never sell or rent data. The only data our servers handle is a random,
anonymous app identifier and standard technical information needed to run and protect the
service.
Who we are
The data controller is ITALDRONI (Italy). Contact:
info@italdroni.it. The app communicates with our
service at api.eurolightning.eu, hosted on our own servers in the European
Union.
Information we process
Anonymous app identifier. When the app first runs, our server issues
a random identifier and access token so the app can request lightning data and so we can
prevent abuse of the service. This identifier is generated by us, is not your
name, email, phone number, account, or your device's advertising identifier, and is
not used to track you across apps or websites.
Technical data. When the app contacts our servers, we process your
network IP address and request timestamps transiently to secure the service and enforce
fair-use rate limits. We also process the app version and platform (iOS/Android) to
operate the API and diagnose problems.
Information we do not collect
Location. The app requests no location permission and never
accesses your location. (The map library links the operating system's location framework,
which is why the store may list a location entry, but the app never requests, uses, or
stores your location.)
Name, email address, phone number, or any account/sign-in information.
Contacts, photos, files, calendar, microphone, camera, or health/financial data.
Advertising identifiers. There is no advertising and no ad network in the app.
How we use the information
To deliver lightning data to the app.
To secure the service and enforce reasonable rate limits (prevent abuse/overload).
To diagnose and fix technical problems.
We do not use this information for advertising, profiling, or automated decision-making,
and we do not combine it with data from other sources to identify you.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data, and we do not share personal data with third
parties for their own purposes. The lightning and map data shown in the app come to
us from public providers — EUMETSAT (Meteosat lightning data) and EOX / Copernicus
(satellite basemap) — we do not send any of your information to them.
The app is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play, which operate under
their own privacy policies.
Data retention
Lightning data is ephemeral — it is retained only for a few hours and
then deleted; it contains no user data.
The anonymous app identifier record is kept while the app is in use so the service can
function; transient technical data (e.g. rate-limit counters) expires automatically within
minutes to hours.
Security
All communication with our servers uses encrypted HTTPS. Access to the API uses
anonymous, revocable tokens rather than personal credentials.
Children
EuroLightning is a general-audience weather information app and is not directed to
children. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA under the GDPR), you may have rights to
access, correct, or delete personal data, or to object to or restrict its processing.
Because the app is designed to be anonymous, we typically hold no information that can
identify you; where we can act on a request, we will. To make a request or ask a question,

International processing
Our servers are located in the European Union. If you use the app from outside the EU,
the limited technical data described above is processed on our EU-based servers.
Important disclaimer
EuroLightning is provided for information only. It is
not a safety or life-protection tool, and lightning data may be delayed.
Do not rely on it for decisions affecting the protection of life or property.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by
updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, noted in the app.
